Homemade Buñuelos for Cinco de Mayo

These sweet treats have been passed down from generation to generation and are such a HUGE part of traditional celebrations. They’re light, crunchy and just the right amount of sweet, perfect for sharing with family or treating your guests to something homemade.
The best part? Buñuelos are way easier to make than they look, and they turn out just as delicious as you’d expect.
Whether you’re hosting a get-together or just craving something sweet, this recipe is the perfect addition to your Cinco de Mayo celebration!

Ingredients:
1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ tbsp sugar
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp baking powder
A splash of Vainilla Molina
1 tbsp water
2 tbsp oil
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1 L oil (for frying)
1 cup sugar (for coating)
1 tbsp ground cinnamon (for coating)
A buñuelo mold
Instructions:
1. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, water, eggs and oil.
2. Add a splash of Vainilla Molina and mix until incorporated
3. Slowly pour in milk, whisking until you get a smooth, lump-free batter.
4. Heat oil. Once it’s hot, dip buñuelo mold in oil first. Then quickly shake off excess oil and dip in batter. Make sure batter doesn’t cover top of mold, otherwise the buñuelo will get stuck.
5. Immediately place mold back in hot oil and let buñuelo slide off.
6. Fry until golden brown, transfer to paper towels to drain excess oil.
7. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture.
Tip: Serve immediately for the perfect crunch and pair with a traditional drink such as hot chocolate or coffee.
